There is more of course to Hamburg than the playgrounds that I chose as the focus of my Mark Power workshop series, “Stille Spielplätze”. The endless variations of luminescent grey in the sky bring a special light to the city, making one want to wander no matter how dry or wet weather conditions will be. The North Sea is over 100 km away to the north-west, but the Elbe draws its light and spirit inland, whether in the city streets north of the river or in the vast industrial and trading complexes south of it.
